What is Coaching vs Consulting?
* Coaching is a Focus on developing your CEO skill & capabilities
* Consulting provides expert advice & solutions to problems
Use the Socratic method in Coaching relationships to be highly effective. Here’s how it can be implemented:
1. Goal-setting and exploration:
– Coach: “What do you want to achieve in your role as CEO?”
– Follow-up: “Why is that important to you?”
2. Problem-solving:
– Coach: “What obstacles are you facing in reaching your goal?”
– Follow-up: “What have you tried so far to overcome these obstacles?”
3. Self-reflection:
– Coach: “How does your style impact team performance?”
– Follow-up: “What examples had a positive or negative effect?”
4. Decision-making:
– Coach: “What options are you considering for this situation?”
– Follow-up: “What might be the consequences of each option?”
5. Challenging assumptions:
– Coach: “You mentioned X always leads to Y. Is that always true?”
– Follow-up: “Any situations where it might not apply?”
6. Exploring new perspectives:
– Coach: “How might your competitors view this situation?”
– Follow-up: “What insights does that perspective offer?”
7. Action planning:
– Coach: “Based on the above, what next step should be used?”
– Follow-up: “How will you know if this step is successful?”
The key is asking open-ended questions that prompt deeper thinking and self-discovery.
The coach guides the conversation but allows the client to reach their own conclusions.
